RAS AL KHAIMAH: In an awe-inspiring showcase of skill and courage, an Emirati wingsuit flyer soared from Jebel Jais, the UAE’s highest mountain peak.
The daring feat, performed by Khalifa Alghafri – widely known as the ‘Batman of the Emirates’ – was captured in a gripping video that has captivated audiences worldwide.
Taking off from an altitude of 1,650 metres above sea level, the flight took place early Sunday morning amidst foggy skies. Accompanied by adventurers from Argentina, Romania, and South Africa, the team waited patiently until 9.30AM for the weather to clear before executing the precision jump.
The descent, which ended in a flawless parachute landing, lasted just 1.30 minutes, showcasing the artistry and precision of extreme sports.
‘Batman of the Emirates’
Khalifa Alghafri’s journey into wingsuit flying began in 2014. Since then, he has amassed an impressive record of over 1,618 jumps across six countries, including Switzerland, France, Norway, Turkey, and the UAE. His rigorous training in Italy allowed him to master advanced techniques for base jumping, wingsuit navigation, and safe landings.
Alghafri’s exploits span a range of breathtaking locations, from mountainous terrains in Ras Al Khaimah to iconic structures across Europe. He credits the sport with giving him a profound sense of freedom and helping him overcome psychological pressures. His adventures have inspired millions, as reflected in his massive social media following of over 1.2 million.
Jebel Jais: UAE’s highest peak
Standing at 1,900 metres above sea level, Jebel Jais is the highest peak in the UAE and a prime destination for adventure enthusiasts. Nestled in the northern region of Ras Al Khaimah, the mountain offers a rugged landscape and breathtaking views, making it a hub for extreme sports and outdoor activities.
